§ 01 · About

Two mathematicians, one conversation.

Artificial intelligence looks like software, but underneath it is mathematics — linear algebra, calculus, probability and optimization, quietly doing the work of learning.

This webinar brings pure and applied mathematics into one room to ask a two-sided question — how do mathematical principles build intelligent systems, and how is AI, in turn, becoming a new instrument for mathematical discovery?

PILLAR 01

Foundations

The linear algebra, calculus and probability that make machine learning and deep learning work.

PILLAR 02

Modelling

Mathematical modelling, numerical methods and optimization — from theory to computation.

PILLAR 03

Discovery

AI as a research partner across pure and applied mathematics.

Dr. Umma Kulsum Suma

Associate Professor & Head · Department of Mathematics, Bangladesh University

Dr. Umma Kulsum Suma is the Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Mathematics at Bangladesh University. She completed her Ph.D. in Mathematics at Jahangirnagar University, researching computational fluid dynamics, heat transfer and nanofluid modelling. Over sixteen years she has been engaged in teaching, research and academic leadership, focusing on computational mathematics, numerical methods, scientific computing, optimization and AI-assisted mathematical modelling, with publications in leading journals and conferences. In this webinar she demonstrates how mathematical principles underpin modern machine learning and deep learning — and how they help build and improve AI models.
